Ian's Shoelace Site
Dude loves his shoelaces. I found this by searching for "make your own aglet." What's an aglet? well:
ag·let (glt)
n.
  1. A tag or sheath, as of plastic, on the end of a lace, cord, or ribbon to facilitate its passing through eyelet holes.
  2. A similar device used for an ornament.

Get a JOB!

Career expert Laurence Boldt, author of "Zen and the Art of Making a Living," calls it your life's work, and says you can find your calling by asking yourself these questions:

1. Who am I? What do you care deeply about? Your life's work will support your ideals and anchor them in the everyday world of action.

2. How can I serve others? Your life's work is your way of making the world a better place. It's using your interest and aptitudes to make a meaningful contribution to something you care about.

3. What do I love to do? No matter how noble your ideals and aspirations, you must bring joy and innate talent to your work if you are to be truly successful. Think about what you enjoy doing and what you are naturally good at.

4. What would I be willing to dedicate to enough to persist to excellence? Quality and achievement have their price. What endeavors would you be willing to make sacrifices for and give your all to?

Together, these questions should point you toward a path. Once you've identified some possible occupations, Boldt suggests you run them through the following checklist:

Do I have the skills necessary to work in the field? If not, is the amount of training required to gain the skills acceptable?

Would it give me a work environment I could excel in?

Would it allow for maximum expression of my creativity?

Would it provide me with opportunities for continued growth and development?

Would I actually be serving the people I most want to help?

Would I be working with the kind of people who would stimulate, challenge and support me?

Would I earn an acceptable amount of money?

Are the likely trade-offs and sacrifices I would have to make feasible and acceptable?

An open letter to ... myself?

Hello Chris Thompson,
My name is ... Chris Thompson. No relation, I think. Unless you're from Minnesota, then we might be 5th cousins 4 times removed or some nonsense. I was born Christopher Dodd Thompson on May 14th, 1982, in delightful Somerville, NJ. That's just to let you know, to make sure we aren't the same person. I have a website: eagleapex.com, a neighborhood blog: bodiner.blogspot.com, And like you, am a reader of Boingboing. I even had a post a while back about some found punk photos.
So basically I have a challenge for you: whoever gets famous first, gets $20. I shall explain. Ever hear of Tom Cruise? No, not THAT Tom Cruise. Tommie P Cruise, from Tallassee, Alabama. No? That's right, no one else has either. That's because Mr. Scientology got it his fame first, so crazy-Tom Cruise gets the recognition. I think the Film Actors Guild (ha) makes you register your name, like a patent or something. (I wonder if they'll run out of realistic names and start naming people Greogy Hallsyf and stuff.) So even if Tommie P. Cruise becomes the star of a new E! reality show, he'll always be compared to Jerry MacGuire. Basically what I'm saying is that if I win, you might have to start going by Kriss Tomsen just to get some showing on Google. And well, if I lose, then I'll go by my middle name. Dodd is kinda cool.
So anyway, let me know if you accept, and we'll agree to some terms, like how to judge fame, and when to start the 15 minute timer. By the way, I hope you don't think of this letter as combative or anything. I just thought it would be funny. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Chris Thompson

Found Punk - a photoset on Flickr
Val saw this album in the trash and was tempted to take but persuaded not to. The next day it appeared stuck in her door, with some pictures blown down the street. We collected them, I scanned them, and here they are.
The band featured is Circle of Shit. Some dude was quoted in the PW remembering Circle of Shit. From their site:

"I remember it was at Love Hall, which has since burned to the ground, but used to be located at the corner of Broad and South," says Gregg Finizio. "It was a great bill: Hüsker Dü, the Minutemen, a couple other bands I can't remember, and a local band called Circle of Shit."

The Dead Milkmen even mention them in a song

We are not Blunder Boys
We are not Circle of Shit
We are not F.O.D.
We are not an art fag band

Good times. It all reminds me of Cory Doctorow's story Craphound

The photo of my Dad posing sent me whirling through time to Toronto's Muscle Beach in the east end, and hearing the tinny AM radios playing weird psychedelic rock while teenagers lounged on their Mustangs and the girls sunbathed in bikinis that made their tits into torpedoes.

It all made poems. The old pulp novels and the pawn ticket, when I spread them out in front of the TV, and arranged them just so, they made up a poem that took my breath away.

Yeah so that's it. Enjoy

Val sent me this email, the one mentioned on the page, and subsequently, I found this page. It's kinda like Snopes, but for chain emails. I'm going to hit "reply all" to every subsequent email I get from my aunt's cousin from now on and enlighten some peeps.
Thanks Val!

The "Color Me Mine" Rap
YO! What's good uh?
It's called a battle royale (of the rap persuasion) and the west coast has responded to The Chronic with a jam so lame it's cool.
Oh, and some kids dubbed the original.
I heard about this on Dailysonic. The best podcast ever.
Peace.
